Vegetarian Bantu have worse CHD markers than non-vegetarian!

I could not resist re-posting this pearl (thanks Peter):

Lancet. 1996 Sep 21;348(9030):784-8. "Blood pressure and atherogenic lipoprotein profiles of fish-diet and vegetarian villagers in Tanzania: the Lugalawa study."

Quote:
INTERPRETATION: In these villagers, consumption of freshwater fish (300-600 g daily) was associated with raised plasma concentrations of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, lower blood pressure, and lower plasma lipid concentrations.
 Heretic's translation:
   Vegetarianism sucks.

You think vegetarianism sucks? It ain't nothing compared to veganism. Veganism double sucks! I feel particularly bad for the poor kids of vegans. They have no choice in their soy-gobbling habits that are going to lead to life-long health problems.

Hi Aaron,

Totally agree! That's one of the reason behind my joining their discussion groups in the past, to pour some liquid on their parade.

I always am trying to warn them but it works as well as trying to advise people with coronary heart disease to cut on refined carbohydrates. The connection may be obvious to us, but not to them.

It is not just vegetarians and vegans. Many forms of harmful mass obsessions or infatuation by certain ideas are noticeable.

Modern environmentalism is one, the idea of social "sharing" is another, "teamwork" in business, an idol saving you for your imaginary "sins" or "consensus" in science, to name just a few.

I hope I didn't offend too many people If I did, may be I should just continue?
